Vocation, Work and Career
(Go to Registration Information)
The Urban Sanctuary presents their Annual Healthy Soul Conference featuring Gordon T. Smith speaking on Vocation, Work, and Career; Navigating the Transitions of Life. Christians at all stages of life wrestle with matters of vocation – "What is God calling me to do with the next chapter of my life?" And what we need is practical guidance for discerning well, in the midst of uncertainty and change in the church and in our social environment. And we need encouragement – for young people as they embark on their adult lives, for those in mid-life as they make sense of their options (and limitations) and those entering their senior years, as they enter into this new chapter in their lives.
About Gordon T. Smith: Gordon T. Smith is the president of reSource Leadership International, an agency that seeks to foster excellence in theological education in the developing world. Prior to his current position, Dr. Smith served as the Vice President and Academic Dean of Regent College in Vancouver, where he continues to teach part time. He has served in pastoral appointments and is a published author, writing and teaching in the areas of systematic and spiritual theology.

Thursday Evening Discussions - Spring 2012
As we continuing to offer opportunites for people to learn about spiritual formation and grow in their relationship to God, we decided to bring back a little "blast from the past." If you've been around the Urban Sanctuary for a while, you may remember our Thursday Lectures. They were a good time for people interested in either, or both, spiritual formation and the Urban Sanctuary to come and hear a talk and have a good discussion about topics of interest.
We've renamed them Thursday Evening Discussions for this Spring to reflect our desire for the participants to engage in discussion around the topic as well as listening to the teaching. What one person shares often echoes in others' lives, so we learn more as we share and listen to each other.
Each of the discussions below will be held at the Urban Sanctuary. We will begin at 7 p.m. and end by 9 p.m. and we will have some refreshments to share, as well as good teaching and discussion.
The Thursday Evening Discussions are free, but if you plan to attend we would like you to register below so we know how many to expect.
Art - Vocabulary of the Soul
Throughout Christian history the arts have been central to Christian worship. They are an avenue in which many find a close connection to God. In this Friday and Saturday workshop we will explore the connection between art and faith. This is a hands on workshop that will include both teaching and our own creating, and in our creations we will have the opportunity to both give and receive. This workshop is for artists, would be artists, and for those who are curious about art and faith. Students will be encouraged to create in the art of their choice -- painting, writing, sculpture, etc., and instruction and supplies for water color and drawing will be provided for those who desire it.
Workshop Presenter: Artist Julie Drew. Cost $75 per person, includes Saturday Lunch.
Date : April 27 & 28, 2012
Schedule : Friday 7 - 9 p.m., Saturday 9 a.m. - 3 p.m.
