Application Procedures

Basic Program - Year 1

Participation in the Urban Institute presupposes a certain degree of ministry or life experience, combined with personal maturity. Life experience and relational skills are crucial. The application process has two parts.

Part A: Send in the following with $25 processing fee:

Application Form – Download Applicaton form or Call Urban Sanctuary at (780) 477-5731 to receive a hard copy.
General Essay - 1000 words describing your understanding of spiritual formation and soul care, and why you are interested in pursuing this field of study. Include personal interests, passions, ministerial goals, etc.
Personal Essay - describe how you see this program practically affecting your personal life while you are immersed in it. What are your present time commitments to family, job, ministry aspects, etc.
Personal Biography - 1000 words focusing on the significant spiritual developments of your life. How have they shaped you as a person? Where are you at presently in your spiritual growth and development?
References - Submit three references, personal and pastoral (at least one from a pastor who has known you for at least two years, and preferably one reference from a former professor/teacher). Download Reference Form , or Call the Urban Sanctuary at (780) 477-5731 to receive a hard copy.

Part B: Interview

The interview will be conducted with two of the staff of Urban Institute at 11525 23rd Ave, unless arrangements are made for another venue. At the interview the applicant will be asked to sign an agreement to the four covenants.

Extended Academic Program - Year 1

Part A: Acceptance into the Urban Institute Basic Program - Year 1 (See Above)

Part B: Registration with Taylor Seminary for SF 513 and SF 514.
