The Urban Sanctuary Community
Along with the staff, it takes many people, all working together, to provide the ministry of the Urban Sanctuary and to keep it working well. We have volunteers that help with cleaning, office work, hosting, retreats, meals, the Healthy Soul conference and much more. We also have a group of trained and regularly supervised Spiritual Directors who walk along with people, helping them to see the paths God is leading them on. Plus we have trained teachers and small group leaders in our Urban Institute. And, of course, some people fill more than one of these roles.
The most important part of the work at the Urban Sanctuary is prayer. Both staff and volunteers pray regularly for the Urban Sanctuary and those that are impacted my God's ministry among us. Each time someone comes in for solitude or Spiritual Direction, someone else has taken time to pray for that person and their time with God. And nearly every week somebody in our community sets aside a day to pray and seek God's leading for the Urban Sanctuary.
Another significant part of the Urban Sanctuary Community are the Urban Sanctuary Associates. Urban Sanctuary Associates are those who, feeling a call towards deeper commitment and investment in the ministry of the Urban Sanctuary, take the Associate Vow committing themselves to involvement in the ministry of the Urban Sanctuary and to living the type of lifestyle the Urban Sanctuary promotes. Urban Sanctuary Associates get together informally for support and fun during the year, and, once a year they have a weekend retreat.
The Urban Sanctuary Associates host a monthly fellowship and worship time to which everyone is invited. These get togethers begin with a potluck, have time for sharing news and words from God concerning the Urban Sanctuary, and include contemplative worship and reflection.
